Trading Card Expert
3 openingsWe're looking for knowledgeable, passionate trading card enthusiasts to join our growing team. As a Trading Card Expert, you'll be the face of Home Town Cards - helping customers buy, sell, and trade across Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece, and more.
What You'll Do
- Open and close the store, including daily cash handling and security procedures
- Run in-store events including game nights, tournaments, and release events
- Buy, sell, and trade trading cards with customers - evaluate collections, authenticate cards, and negotiate fair deals using current market data
- Sort, list, and ship cards on TCGPlayer - manage inventory accurately and maintain fast shipping standards
- Monitor real-time market trends across TCGPlayer, eBay, and other platforms to price cards competitively
- Set up and tear down vendor booths at card shows, including inventory transport and display organization
- Vend at card shows - represent Home Town Cards at events around Austin and beyond
- Maintain organized displays, restock product, and keep the store presentable
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service - answer questions about games, card values, and upcoming events
What We're Looking For
- Strong knowledge of at least two major TCGs (Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece, etc.)
- Familiarity with TCGPlayer, eBay, or similar marketplace platforms
- Ability to assess card condition and identify market value accurately
- Comfortable handling cash transactions and POS systems
- Reliable transportation (card show travel required)
- Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 40 lbs (show setup/teardown)
- Weekend and evening availability (events often run evenings and weekends)
- Strong attention to detail - card sorting, listing, and shipping require precision
- Cleanliness and pride in your workspace - we keep the store looking sharp and we'll never ask you to do something we won't do ourselves
Bonus Points
- Experience grading cards or working with PSA, BGS, or CGC submissions
- Active player in competitive or casual TCG scenes
- Previous retail or customer service experience
- Experience with Square POS or inventory management systems
- Social media skills - comfortable promoting events and new inventory
