Okay so Pixar is officially in Disney Lorcana and I've been losing my mind about it since the reveal. Wilds Unknown drops this Thursday, May 15, and it brings Toy Story, Brave, and The Incredibles into the game for the first time. Buzz Lightyear is a Lorcana card now. That sentence alone is worth the price of admission.
What's Actually in the Set
Wilds Unknown is Set 12 and it picks up after the Winterspell thaw, scattering glimmers across new regions like the Wilderknot and the Great Empty Sea. Cool flavor aside, the real story here is the Pixar debut. Woody, Buzz, Merida, and the entire Parr family are all showing up as playable cards.
Ravensburger also dropped a new product with this set: a 2-Player Starter Set. Two prebuilt 60-card decks, lore counters, damage counters, the whole package. One deck is Toy Story themed and the other is built around The Incredibles. If you've been trying to get someone into Lorcana, this is the easiest on-ramp they've made yet.
The Chase Cards You Actually Want
Let's talk money and flex. The two Iconic Rares in Wilds Unknown are Buzz, Jungle Ranger and Merida, Formidable Archer. These are the ultra-premium pulls with special holographic foiling that shows the questing icon when you tilt the card. The artwork is slightly raised too, giving them a textured feel that photos don't do justice. Pull rate is estimated around 1 in 1,500 packs. So yeah. Good luck.
Beyond the Iconic Rares, the Enchanted cards are where the real collector heat is. Jack-Jack's Enchanted card is gorgeous and it's already the one everyone's talking about. The Lore Nouveau art style on the Enchanted cards this set has an Art Nouveau vibe that honestly looks better than most of what we've seen in previous sets.
Promos Worth Hunting
Weekly play promos include Lenny, Toy Binoculars and Zipper, Tiny Helper. There's a Disney Parks exclusive promo of Buzz Lightyear, On the Way that you can only get at the parks. And the Set Championship prize card is Woody, Jungle Guide, which will probably end up being one of the more expensive promos from this wave.
Should You Buy Sealed or Singles?
Honest take: if you're a collector, grab a couple booster boxes at launch. The Pixar debut means long-term demand on these cards is going to stay strong. But if you're playing competitively, wait a week for singles prices to settle. Launch weekend prices are always inflated and Lorcana singles drop fast once supply catches up.
Home Town Cards will have Wilds Unknown booster boxes, starter sets, and singles available on launch day.
Prerelease Already Happened (and It Was Fun)
Build & Battle events kicked off May 8 with the new Prerelease Boxes. These are a first for Lorcana and they're designed specifically for sealed play. If you missed prerelease at your LGS, the full release is Thursday and most stores will have product ready at open.
If you're in Austin, Home Town Cards is running our Wilds Unknown Season Week 1 league event this Thursday at 7:30 PM. $10 entry gets you a pack and you're competing for play promos. Sixteen spots so don't sleep on it.
Quick Verdict
Wilds Unknown might be the best entry point for new Lorcana players we've ever gotten, and the Pixar IP is going to bring in people who've been on the fence. The set design is clean, the chase cards are genuinely exciting, and the 2-Player Starter is a smart move by Ravensburger. I'm buying two boxes and I'm not apologizing for it.
